Out-of-favour Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal demonstrated his wares with the bat for Haryana in their latest 2024 Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match against Madhya Pradesh. Taking field at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium and batting at number 10 for Haryana, Chahal batted out 142 deliveries and dispatched two of them for boundaries in his marathon knock.
While the cricketer pumped out just 27 runs in the process, he ended up forming a defiant 67-run stand for the ninth wicket with fellow Indian international and Haryana tailender Harshal Patel. Interestingly, this is the second occurrence of Yuzvendra Chahal slugging it out with the bat in the ongoing 2024 Ranji Trophy season.
Chahal washes up 142 deliveries in weary knock
It seems as if out-of-favour Yuzvendra Chahal has been making a strong case of himself for national selection, albeit in a different capacity. Batting at number 10 for Haryana in Indore at the 2024 Ranji Trophy season, the Indian international arrived to the crease at 339-8 in 106 overs. At the time, Haryana’s first innings lead stood at 31 runs after skittling Madhya Pradesh out for 308.
As it happened, Yuzvendra Chahal batted out nearly two sessions and formed a handy 67-run partnership for the ninth wicket with half-centurion and fellow tailender Harshal Patel. The two cricketers sailed Haryana’s total past the 400-run mark, and stretched their first innings lead near 100 runs before Chahal was knocked over by Shubman Sharma.
Regardless, Yuzvendra Chahal faced 142 deliveries in the innings to score a valiant 27 with two boundaries. By stumps on Day 3, Haryana reached 431-9 with Harshal Patel (72*) and number 11 Aman Kumar (4*) still batting at the crease, all while holding an overall lead of 123 runs.
Earlier this month, i.e., during Haryana’s Ranji Trophy 2024 Elite Group C match against Uttar Pradesh, Yuzvendra Chahal batted 152 balls and contributed with 48 runs to his team’s humungous first innings total of 453.
Chahal played the last of his 152 matches for Team India back in August 2023 with a T20I against West Indies at Lauderhill. His international profile features an impressive haul of 217 wickets at a collective bowling average of around 26.
