The New Zealand cricket team has arrived in Greater Noida ahead of their upcoming one-off Test match against ‘hosts’ Afghanistan. Captain Tim Southee was spotted leading the way as the ‘Black Caps’ were being received at their team hotel on September 5.

The much-awaited match marks the first such instance between the two teams ever since Afghanistan gained Test status back in 2017. The Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground will be hosting the one-off affair.

NZ players arrive for historic Test Vs AFG

Back in late-July this year, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed that they will be ‘hosting’ New Zealand for a one-off Test match at India’s Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground in September. The match marks a historic occasion for Afghanistan cricket as they will be facing New Zealand for the first time since acquiring Test status.

The New Zealand players, led by legendary fast bowler Tim Southee, arrived in Noida in the early hours of September 5, i.e., four days prior to the launch of the one-off Test. The ACB welcomed the New Zealand team on social media and shared a minute-long footage of their arrival to the hotel premises.

The New Zealand Cricket Board announced their 15-player squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan back on August 12. Apart from captain Tim Southee, the team also features Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway and vice-captain Tom Latham among others. The same travelling group will subsequently tour Sri Lanka for two WTC fixtures in Galle.

Afghanistan also announced a preliminary squad of 20 players, set to be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi. Superstar all-rounder Rashid Khan, who last played a Test match back in 2021, was once again sidelined by the board.

Meanwhile, the match between Afghanistan and New Zealand will be hosted by the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. The action is slated to commence from September 9 onwards.
