Ex-Indian Coach Joins Afghanistan Ahead Of New Zealand And South Africa Series

The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced Ramakrishnan Sridhar as the assistant coach of Afghanistan team for For New Zealand and South Africa series. Sridhar was India's fielding coach for seven years from 2014 to 2021, and has the experience of coaching India's U19 team and Kings XI Punjab as well.

Afghanistan are scheduled to play one-off Test against New Zealand from 9th of September and it will be followed by three-match ODI series against South Africa. R Sridhar is Level-3 certified coach and was the Assistant Coach of Indian U19 team from 2008 to 2014. He was also the spin-bowling coach during that tenure and then performed the same role for Kings XI Punjab in IPL.

Sridhar has been associated with National Cricket Academy (NCA) as well, and his addition is expected to provide great value to Afghanistan Cricket that is on a rapid rise in international circuit. 

Afghanistan's Rise In World Cricket

Recently, Afghanistan created history in the T20 World Cup 2024 by qualifying for the semis of the competition under the charismatic leadership of Rashid Khan. They would be looking to build on that momentum in the longer formats and the ODI series would be a good test for them ahead of their maiden stint in the Champions Trophy that is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025.
