Cricket has witnessed the emergence of numerous stars, but few have illuminated the sport as brightly as Rashid Khan, the Afghan leg-spinner renowned for his lightning-fast deliveries and sharp strategic acumen.

As the face of Afghan cricket, Rashid's presence on the field has been eagerly anticipated; however, his next appearance in Test cricket appears to be delayed following a surprising and concerning announcement from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

Major Setback For Rashid Khan After Noida Test Miss

On Friday, the ACB confirmed that Rashid Khan would be unavailable for Test cricket until November 2024, as advised by his physicians. This decision, influenced by medical advice, stems from a back operation Rashid underwent last year.

Doctors have recommended that he refrain from participating in long-format cricket to ensure a full recovery.

As a result, Rashid will miss the upcoming one-off Test against New Zealand, scheduled from September 9-13 in Greater Noida, India, and is doubtful for the December Test series against Zimbabwe.

Naseeb Khan, the Chief Executive of ACB, expressed hope that Rashid might be available for the Zimbabwe series.

"Following Rashid Khan's back operation last year, his doctors advised him to refrain from participating in long-format cricket, which is Test cricket, for one year," Naseeb Khan told Cricbuzz.

"We are hoping that he will available for the two Tests against Zimbabwe in December," he said.

Despite the setback, Naseeb Khan confirmed that Rashid remains fit and is expected to participate in the three-match ODI series against South Africa in the UAE from September 18 to 22.
