Bangladesh walked away with a 21-run win over Nepal in their final league match of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup at Kingstown’s Arnos Vale Ground on June 17. The outcome confirmed Bangladesh’s entry into the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

Here’s the timeline of how BAN vs NEP panned out in Kingstown:

BAN vs NEP Highlights: Nepal Take Four Bangladesh Wickets In Opening Powerplay

Nepal’s new-ball speedster Sompal Kami took a sharp caught-and-bowled to dismiss Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan off the first delivery of the match. The right-arm fast bowler also removed Tanzid’s opening partner Litton Das a couple of overs later in his spell.

Dipendra Singh Airee and Rohit Paudel further struck in their opening spells by getting rid of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and number five Towhid Hridoy respectively as Bangladesh ended up losing four of their top five batters for just 31 runs in the first six overs.

BAN vs NEP Highlights: Sandeep Lamichhane’s Double-Strike Pummels BAN

Some disastrous running between the wickets led to the downfall of a well-set Mahmudullah at 52-5. Senior man Shakib Al Hasan punched out a couple of majestic boundaries to form a 17-run start before he was plumbed in front by Rohit Paudel.

Sandeep Lamichhane knocked over Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Jaker Ali in quick succession as Bangladesh’s troubles worsened at 75-8. Lamichhane’s two-wicket burst also helped him scale the 100-wicket landmark in T20Is in record time, falling just a match behind Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (53 T20Is) on the all-time list.

BAN vs NEP Highlights: Bangladesh Tail Adds Valuable Runs To Cross 100

At 75-8, Bangladesh tailenders Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed batted valiantly to take their side past the 100-run mark. Number 11 batter Mustafizur Rahman eventually became the last man to depart courtesy of a runout as Bangladesh rolled over for 106 in 19.3 overs.

BAN vs NEP Highlights: Tanzim Hasan Sakib Takes Four Within Seven Overs Of Nepal’s Chase

Bangladesh speedster Tanzim Hasan Sakib skittled Nepal’s entire top-order by taking four wickets within the first seven overs of the chase. After cleaning up Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel, Sakib added Anil Sah, Nepal captain Rohit Paudel and number five Sundeep Jora to his tally to finish with career-best T20I figures of 4-7.

Mustafizur Rahman also got into the wicket-acting act by ending the well-set stay of Aasif Sheikh as Nepal reached a sorry-looking 26-5 at the end of the first seven overs.

BAN vs NEP Highlights: Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan Blaze Through Nepal Tail In Big Bangladesh Win

Chasing 107 and falling to 26-5, Nepal middle-order batters Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee shared a majestic 52-run partnership to take their team near the 100-run mark. However, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed both well-set batters in quick succession before all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan claimed the final two wickets on offer to fold up Nepal for just 85 in 19.2 overs.

Bangladesh players ended up walking with a 21-run win at Kingstown, and confirmed their qualification for the Super Eight round of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
