Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Friday that Bharat Arun, the highly regarded former bowling coach of the Indian national team and bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders, will conduct an extensive 14-day coaching program.
The initiative targets a wide spectrum of Sri Lankan cricket, encompassing players from the men's and women's senior and junior national teams, the women's A team, the U-19 men's team, as well as coaches from the High-Performance Centre, provincial/club levels, and coach educators.
Bharat Arun To Spearhead Comprehensive Coaching for Sri Lanka
Arun, who served as India's bowling coach from 2014 to 2021 and most recently with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, will commence his program by focusing on the U-19 men's squad. His role extends far beyond initial training, involving tailored sessions for various national teams.
SLC detailed Arun's multifaceted approach, which includes distinct strategic planning for different formats and hands-on technical work. Beyond on-field skills, Arun's program emphasizes analytical and tactical development for both players and coaches.
"The 62-year-old Arun, who worked in the Indian Premier League as Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling coach, will also hold video and performance analysis sessions with players and coaches, and also on match-scenarios to develop 'game understanding'," the SLC said, as quoted by NDTV.
Sri Lanka's Strategy To Bolster Squad With Foreign Coaches
Sri Lanka's strategy precedes the men's team's home series against Bangladesh and the women's team's Women’s ODI World Cup campaign in India later this year.
Continuing a trend started in 2024, when they enlisted Rajasthan Royals’ high-performance director Zubin Bharucha for a batting program, SLC recently secured the expertise of former India fielding coach R Sridhar.
Sridhar, who served the Indian national team from 2014 to 2021, conducted an extensive 10-day fielding program. This comprehensive camp benefited a wide range of players, including men’s and women’s emerging squads, top club players, the national U19 team, and the women’s ‘A’ side.
