The India tour of England is still a few days away, but the A team has already started their preparation as the side will play two unofficial Test matches against England Lions. The first of the two Tests started today and India were put into bat on a green top with overcast conditions.

Rohit's successor fails to deliver the goods

The Indian opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran were challenged by the English bowlers and while Jaiswal succeeded in weathering the early storm, Easwaran fell cheaply. With Rohit Sharma retiring, the opening slot was left vacant.

Easwaran was touted as Rohit's successor in Test cricket and was included in the Test team for the England tour. The unofficial Test provided him with a platform to cement his place, but the batter departed cheaply and was dismissed for a scratchy looking 17-ball 8.

This has created a dilemma amongst the Indian team management as Rohit's potential successor looked vulnerable against new ball bowlers and now the opening batter has another chance in the second innings to stamp his authority.

Easwaran fails, India to go with KL Rahul as opener?

Jaiswal is fixed and he will be the first choice opener for India. However, the second opener is yet to be decided. The selectors picked Easwaran for the England tour, but if he fails in the two unofficial Tests, the management might go ahead with KL Rahul as Jaiswal's opening partner for the 5-match Test series.
