Sri Lanka suffered a humiliating T20I series defeat at the hands of India. They failed to win a singe match and were whitewashed by a young Indian side.

As a result of this loss, the Charith Asalanka-led side have attained an unwanted T20I record after the series loss. They became the side with the most defeats in T20I history.

Including Super Over, Sri Lanka have now lost 105 T20Is, eclipsing the previous record holders, Bangladesh with 104 losses, followed by West Indies and Zimbabwe, who have registered 101, and 99 defeats respectively.

Talking about the match, India were put into bat by Asalanka, and the decision paid off immediately as India struggled for runs and lost a couple of early wickets. It was the middle-order resistance, Riyan Parag (26), and Washington Sundar (25), which took them to a decent 137/9.

In reply, Sri Lanka had a decent start, with openers adding 58 runs for the opening wicket. However, as the first wicket fell, the Lankan Lions fell like a pack of cards as Sri Lanka, too, struggled for runs. It came down to the wire, with 6 runs required off 6 deliveries.

New T20I captain, Suryakumar brought himself into the attack for the final over and took 2 crucial wickets to take the game to the Super Over, which the Indian side won with ease.
