In a significant development, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced two separate squads for the men's team's upcoming white-ball assignments against New Zealand. Led by Charith Asalanka, the Sri Lankan squad is an amalgamation of experience and youth across both formats.
Kusal Perera Returns To ODIs, No Place For Chameera And Shanaka
Swashbuckling top-order batter Kusal Perera has earned an ODI recall following his heroics in the recent matches. In 116 innings, the explosive left-handed batter has amassed 3237 runs at an average of 30.54 and a blistering strike rate of 92.88.
Meanwhile, veteran seam-bowling all-rounder Dasun Shanaka hasn't found a place in both teams. The former Lankan skipper also didn't feature in the recently concluded series against West Indies.
Experienced fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera continues to miss out due to fitness concerns, with Dilshan Madushanka leading the pace battery alongside Asitha Fernando in the ODIs. Regarding the T20I team, Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana will spearhead the bowling attack, while Binura Fernando will bring his death-bowling skills into the table.
Skipper Asalanka will form Sri Lanka's batting core along with Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka and the in-form Nishan Madushka. Meanwhile, the wily bowling duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana will spearhead the Lankan spin department.
