Pakistan's promising cricketer Irfan Khan Niazi had an eventful day on the field during the first One-Day International of the ongoing three-match series against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground. After dropping a straightforward chance, the all-rounder nearly saved a six off Shaheen Afridi's bowling through a superhuman effort.
The incident occurred during the 20th over of Australia's innings when Josh Inglis was forming a consolidating stand along with Marnus Labuschagne. After conceding three runs, including a brace, off his first two balls, Shaheen banged it short to surprise Josh Inglis.
However, being a brilliant player off the back foot, Inglis nailed the pull shot, with the ball sailing towards the fence. But Irfan Khan Niazi had other ideas, as he nearly pulled off an astonishing catch near the boundary ropes.
The right-handed batter showcased his incredible fielding attributes, timing his jump to perfection. Although he managed to drag the ball back into the playing area, he had touched the ropes, which prompted the on-field umpire to reward six runs to Inglis and Australia.
However, on the very next delivery, Irfan Khan Niazi took a fantastic running catch, helping Shaheen dismiss Inglis at a crucial juncture of the game.
Haris Rauf Brings Pakistan Back With A Sensational Spell
The departure of Inglis opened the floodgates for Australia, with Haris Rauf rattling the hosts with breakthroughs on consecutive deliveries. After removing Marnus Labuschagne with a snorter, Rauf bowled at a rollicking speed to send Maxwell back for a golden duck. At the time of writing, the game was hanging in the balance, with the Aussies needing 51 runs with four wickets in hand.
