Sri Lanka emerged victorious in the Hong Kong Sixes 2024 tournament after defeating Pakistan by 3 wickets in an entertaining final held on Sunday at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. Chasing a target of 73 runs, Sri Lanka reached the goal with an over to spare.
On the eve of the Hong Kong Sixes 2024 final, Sri Lanka captain Lihuru Madhusanka opted to bowl first after winning the toss, and his decision paid off as Sri Lanka's bowlers contained Pakistan to a modest total of 72/6. Muhammad Akhlaq scored 48 off 20 balls but failed to find support from the other end. Faheem Ashraf, the team's skipper, added a quick 13 runs off 4 balls, but the team couldn't post a larger total.

Meanwhile, Lakshan and Tharindu Rathnayake took 2 wickets each, while Madhusanka and Nimesh Vimukthi chipped in with a wicket each. In the chase, Sandun Weerakkody gave Sri Lanka a brisk start of 34 off 13 balls before skipper Madhusanka slammed 19 off 5 balls. Tharindu Rathnayake delivered the final punch with 16 off 4 balls to wrap up the chase with 6 balls to spare.
With that, Sri Lanka were crowned 2024 Hong Kong Sixes event's champions. In a unique six a side event, Sri Lanka achieved success with their explosive batting order and equally impactful bowling attack.
Robin Uthappa faces humiliation in Hong Kong Sixes
In a remarkable display at the Hong Kong Sixes 2024, English batter Ravi Bopara hit six successive sixes off Indian star Robin Uthappa. England had batted first to set a daunting total of 120/1 in 6 overs.
Ravi Bopara and Samit Patel were aggressive, dismantling Indian bowling and bringing up their half centuries with ease. Bopara, in particular, was destructive, taking full advantage of Uthappa's over and smashing him for 37 runs, which included six successive sixes and a wide ball. Meanwhile, chasing 121, the Indian side deflated from the start and ultimately fell short of 15 runs.
