Ravindra Jadeja recently took a sly dig at the ‘PR game’ involving India’s cricketing pantheon. Without naming any individual, the star Indian all-rounder claimed that some cricketers in the Indian team purchase likes and followers on social media.

Jadeja made the explosive claim during his latest interview with former Indian teammate and active Chennai Super Kings (CSK) colleague Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube channel.

While interacting with fellow CSK all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja took a dig at the PR culture within the Indian team. While the cricketer did not name any individual, Jadeja’s comments sparked the social media buzz around Indian batting greats like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and others.

The 36-year-old said that it is important for every player to earn respect in the dressing room. He added that if a player fails to do so, any form of ‘buyable’ social media engagement like increasing likes and followers will not add any credibility to their profile.

Jadeja’s comments arrive at a time when PR strategies seem to have taken centre stage in shaping the public perception of certain cricketers. From curated image-building to frequent brand collaborations, it is safe to say that modern-day players are seemingly relying on digital influence to amplify their reach.

Ravindra Jadeja’s IPL teammate and former Indian captain MS Dhoni, however, claimed that he never pursued PR even though he was urged by many of his managers to do so. Back in 2024, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter also took a sly dig at the PR culture, saying that players who play good cricket do not need PR to begin with.
