IPL 2025 is coming towards its end. The tournament is just four games away from getting a new champion. Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are the four teams in the race. 

Besides crowning champions, IPL awards indivudual players in various ways. One of the most important of these awards is the Most Valuable Player of the Season. The Player Of The Series award as renamed as the MVP from 2013. 

What Is The MVP Of IPL?

The Most Valuable Player is awarded on the basis of a particular point system. The points given to the players are in the order - 

  • For A Four - 2.5 Points
  • For A Six - 3.5 Points
  • For A Wicket - 3.5 Points
  • For A Catch/ Stumpings - 2.5 Points Point
  • For A Dot Ball - 1 Point

So, the players who collect the highest number of points through their performance in the season gets the MVP for the season.

Why Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan or Noor Ahmad Are Not At Top Of The List?

One question might arise that why Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill or Noor Ahmad are not in the top five of the MVP list despite topping the charts for highest run scorers and highest wicket-takers. The fact that despite scoring the most runs or the most wickets they are not at the top of the MVP list because they have not picked up enough points through the criteria defined by IPL.

Conclusion

In case of batters, the volume of runs is not a point of consideration while calculating for MVP and that is a prime reason that Suryakumar Yadav is ahead. Besides, calculating the fours and sixes actually counts for the impact of the runs scored by the batter. 

The system used by IPL gives quite fair in determining the MVP of a season. While it accounts for the overall effectiveness and impact of a batter, it also counts for the overall contribution of the player, including his presence in the field.
