MS Dhoni has opened up and expressed his views about social media and public relations. The former Indian captain, who often stayed away from social media platforms during his playing days, believes a player does not need any PR to begin with if they are performing well on the field.
The legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter, aged 43, is all set to extend his cricketing career through the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
IPL bound MS Dhoni makes big claim on PR
MS Dhoni started out his cricketing journey in late-2004, and went on to become one of the most popular sporting personalities in the world by the time of his retirement from all forms of the game. A two-time World Cup winning skipper, and one of IPL’s most decorated captains, Dhoni believes that he has never been a fan of social media and has often stayed away from PR even when his managers requested him to do so.
Moreover, the legendary Indian stumper claimed that no player requires a PR team if they are performing well. While speaking on Eurogrip Tred Talks, Dhoni said:
“I have never been a big fan of social media. Throughout, I have had so many managers and all of them keep pushing. I started playing in 2004; Twitter got popular later on, after which Instagram came in. All the managers told me, ‘you should do some PR, build this and build that’. I had the same answer that if you play good cricket, you don’t need PR.”
MSD To Feature For CSK In IPL 2025
It is worth noting that MS Dhoni’s rise in international cricket also coincided with the sudden emergence of several social media giants like Twitter and Instagram. While the 43-year-old does have an online presence on both platforms, he rarely expresses himself with online posts.
Nonetheless, MS Dhoni is currently on course to reprise his role for the CSK franchise in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The seasoned T20 campaigner relinquished his leadership responsibility earlier this year prior to IPL 2024 in favour of rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad.
