After two successful seasons of the Major League Cricket is set to be back with the action-packed third season as fans are waiting for some unmissable T20 action. But this season faces major scheduling clashes with multiple international series, raising serious concerns.
At a crucial juncture, Steve Smith will feature in just two games for the Washington Freedom as the franchise has already announced the replacement.
Smith Finds A Window Amid Schedule Clash
The Major League Cricket is coming back with its third season to deliver unreal cricket thrills as the tournament begins on June 13. As the World Test Championship final will take place on June 11, the MLC 2025 will see a clash with the series. That has become a massive concern for the franchises, as the Washington Freedom has taken a massive step.
As Australia is set to lock horns with South Africa in the WTC final, Steve Smith will miss the first two matches of the MLC 2025. After wrapping up the WTC final, Smith is set to feature only 2 games for the side on June 21 and 22.
Beyond the WTC final, Australia will take on the West Indies in a three-match Test series on June 25. As the national duty clashes with the franchise league, the Australian great is all set to miss the MLC 2025, apart from the two games.
Freedom Announces The Replacement
With Steve Smith missing most of the tournament, the Washington Freedom has named Kiwi batter Mark Chapman as his replacement. Chapman has featured recently in the Pakistan Super League. In 4 matches, he scored 52 runs. In Freedom’s middle order, he will add more depth.
Travis Head will also be missing from the upcoming season, but Washington Freedom pulled off a smart move by signing Mitchell Owen. In the recent PSL 2025, he has scored 102 runs in 7 matches, but his heroics in the previous BBL season are still fresh in memory. Apart from that, Ben Sears and Jason Behrendorff will join the team for the upcoming season.
