As expected, India opener Shubman Gill won the much-anticipated Polly Umrigar Award 2022-2023 during the BCCI organised Naman Awards, which celebrates the best of Indian cricket.

The star-studded event makes a return after a four-year gap and has handed out awards for each year since 2020, with Gill getting rewarded for his stellar 2022-23 season.

The newly appointed Gujarat Titans' captain slammed 2,154 runs in the past 12 months, including seven hundred, that saw the young player score his maiden ODI double century and T20I ton.

Upon receiving the award, Gill looked forward to the upcoming test against England and did not ponder much on the year that was.

"I am excited to play against England. 5 Test matches, I haven’t played such a series but interesting. Batting at 3 is new and I am learning a lot. I get a little break from fielding at short leg," Gill said.

The night witnessed other Polly Umrigar Award winners, namely Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who won the prestigious recognition for the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

Interestingly, Gill also won the U16 Player Of The Year award back in 2016 and has only stepped up year after year.

In his short career, Gill has appeared in 20 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 14 T20Is, amassing 1,040, 2,2271 and 335 runs, respectively, with nine centuries and 18 half-centuries.
