On a momentous occasion for Indian cricket fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host its annual awards ceremony for the first time since 2019. The event, scheduled ahead of the highly anticipated India vs. England Test series starting on January 25, promises to be a celebration of outstanding cricket achievements.

The spotlight will shine brightly on the young and talented Indian opener, Shubman Gill, who is poised to receive the prestigious Cricketer of the Year award. Gill's stellar performance in the past 12 months has earned him this accolade, making him the fastest batter to surpass the 2000-run milestone in ODIs.

His remarkable feat includes five centuries in the 50-over format, catapulting him to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings and dethroning Pakistan's Babar Azam.

The BCCI awards will also honour the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, with the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award. Shastri, a former Indian all-rounder with an illustrious career spanning 80 Tests and 150 ODIs, played a pivotal role in India's historic Test series victory in Australia under his coaching tenure.

Notably, Shastri's leadership saw India become the first Asian team to clinch a Test series win Down Under, and the team also reached the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-finals.

The awards ceremony, set to take place in Hyderabad on January 23, will witness the presence of both Indian and English cricket teams, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.
