'Rohit Sharma Good, But That Doesn't Necessarily...' - Wood's Warning Before Tests

With Virat Kohli making himself unavailable for the first two Tests against England, a lot will now depend upon captain Rohit Sharma's form with the bat, who generally provides the incoming batters with a platform to build on.

A major threat to England, pacer Mark Wood's ahead of the first Test, which gets underway on January 25, has revealed plans against Sharma, which the Three Lions and himself could and will employ.

Sharma, who averages 66.73 in India, is not afraid to use his feet against a pacer or spinner in Asian conditions, which deflates the opponents and helps the home side take command in the long run.

As quoted by NDTV Sport, Wood explained that regardless of the track on offer, England will pepper the Indian captain with short-ball, which, apart from being his favourite scoring shot, is also his Achilles heel.

That doesn't necessarily mean that I wouldn't bowl a bouncer - Mark Wood

"Yeah, the conditions will be assessed once I am out there, and bumps (bouncers) are rarely bought out here. But the pitch sometimes can be two-paced and, if it is slow, it can help (bowlers) because the batters will be through with the shot. Someone like Rohit, I know how good he is on the short ball. That doesn't necessarily mean that I wouldn't bowl a bouncer. It just means that I'll have to be really accurate with it and bowl at the right time," Wood said.

The 34-year-old further explained that England will look to adapt to situations on offer in India and will not shy away from playing their style of cricket, something they achieved great success doing in Pakistan last year.

The first Test will be played in Hyderabad starting Thursday.
