India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer recently found himself at the center of media reports claiming that he would miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match due to a shoulder injury. However, Shreyas was quick to dismiss these rumours and took to social media to call out the false information, urging the media to verify their sources before publishing such news.

Shreyas Iyer, who recently scored a sensational century against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, was reportedly set to miss the upcoming match due to an alleged shoulder injury. Various media outlets picked up on this story, with one of them even stating that he needed at least a week’s rest.

However, Shreyas directly addressed these claims by taking to X (formerly Twitter), asking journalists to “do some homework” before sharing unverified news. He quoted a social media post which had falsely stated, “Shreyas Iyer set to miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy game,” which was later deleted after the cricketer’s response.

Shreyas Iyer's Recent Comeback

Just last week, Shreyas Iyer made a spectacular return to form with a stunning knock of 142 runs off 190 balls in Mumbai’s second Ranji Trophy match this season. His performance helped Mumbai bounce back from a shocking defeat in their opening game against Baroda, cementing his importance in the team. After the match, Shreyas made it clear that despite the external noise, he would always prioritize his body and make decisions accordingly. “I know the threshold I’ve carried over the last few years. Based on that, I’ll make the right decision,” he said, showing his confidence in managing his fitness.

Speculation about Shreyas Iyer’s availability for future matches has been rife this year. He was dropped midway through the home Test series against England due to poor form and was later left out of the BCCI’s central contracts list. Reports suggested this decision was due to his failure to play domestic cricket when he wasn’t part of the national team. Currently, there are no indications that Shreyas will be part of the Indian squad for their upcoming tour of Australia, with the squad yet to be announced.
