Shreyas Iyer has been at the centre of criticism lately for his indifferent form and there have been question marks on his commitment towards red-ball cricket. He has not played Test cricket for India since the second Test against England earlier in 2024 and had to lose his central contract as well after he decided to skip a Ranji game.

However, he did play the Ranji Final and scored crucial runs for his side. In the Irani Cup game too he scored runs but the century was missing, and he has finally ended that drought in a Ranji match against Maharashtra. He scored 142 off just 190 balls and looked quite determined during his knock. After the innings, Shreyas revealed his feeling and said that it is special to get a century after a long time.

“Yeah, feels special. Coming back after a very long time, obviously I was feeling a bit down with my injuries, but now getting a century after a very long time, it’s a great feeling overall,” Shreyas said at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy.

Shreyas Iyer Opens Up On His Exclusion And Test Commitment

He added that though he has been out of the Indian Test and T20I side, he has won three championships in 2024 and wants to look at the positive side.

“You win three championships (Ranji Trophy, IPL and Irani Cup) in a year and what else can you ask for? All I see is the positive things over here and that is winning the trophy and that’s what I want.

Shreyas Iyer also put to rest the talks of his non-commitment to Test cricket and said that he very keen to make his comeback in the longest format of the game. He added that he just want to concentrate on what he can control and keep performing and participating in as many tournaments as possible.

Absolutely. That’s why I have been playing. I mean, or else I would have given a reason and sat out. I am absolutely keen for a comeback, but yeah, as we say, control the controllables and as always to keep performing and keep participating as much as possible and also see to it that my body is in the best shape. So I will take the best decision possible according to that.”
