In a phenomenal achievement, New Zealand's Chad Bowes slammed the fastest-ever double hundred in List-A cricket, overtaking Australia's Travis Head and India's Narayan Jagadeesan. The explosive right-handed batter attained the feat during Canterbury's Ford Trophy clash against Otago in Christchurch.
Hailed for his scintillating stroke-play, Chad Bowes brought up a blistering double ton in just 103 deliveries. Thus, he broke the record jointly held by Head and Jagadeesan, who had played 114 balls to reach the landmark.
Bowes, who was dismissed for 205 runs, also registered the second-highest individual score in New Zealand's List-A history. Former opener Jamie How tops the chart with a mammoth score of 222 to his name.
Chad Bowes Scripts History With A Marathon Knock
After Otago captain Matthew Bacon won the toss and chose to bowl, Canterbury had the worst possible start, losing the experienced Henry Nicholls for a duck. Wicketkeeper Michael Hay and number-three batter Rhys Mariu also couldn't contribute much to the total, departing for two and ten runs, respectively.
However, these dismissals hardly impacted Chad Bowes, who continued his onslaught at the other end. The right-handed batter hammered 27 boundaries and seven massive sixes for his belligerent 110-ball 205. He brought up his double century in 103 deliveries, thus creating a new record in List-A cricket.
Among other Canterbury batters, Zakary Foulkes played magnificently for his 46-ball 49*, setting the tone for a whopping total for his side. As a result, Canterbury posted 343 runs on the board, losing nine wickets.
