Shreyas Iyer is set to miss Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Tripura. Ever since he returned from Sri Lanka in August, the senior Indian batter has played six successive first-class matches across Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup and Ranji Trophy tournaments for India A and Mumbai.
Last week, Iyer plundered a match-winning 142 against Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer to miss Mumbai’s next match due to injury
As reported by Cricbuzz, Indian cricketer and Mumbai veteran Shreyas Iyer is set to miss his team’s upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Tripura. The 29-year-old recently sustained a shoulder injury, and will be required to take a rest for at least one week.
Sources close to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) have already confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will not be travelling to Agartala alongside the rest of his Mumbai teammates.
So far in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Iyer has stacked up 172 runs in three innings spanning two matches at a splendid average of 57.33. He started his season with scores of 0 and 30 against Baroda, and followed it up with a match-defining 142 against Maharashtra to list his 14th first-class century.
The Mumbai cricket team, led by charismatic Ajinkya Rahane, is set to face Tripura in their Elite Group A match at Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium. The much-awaited four-day fixture will be staged between October 26 and October 29.
The defending champions have so far garnered a win and a defeat each to be ranked fourth on the Elite Group A points table. A win over Tripura at this stage of the tournament will help them climb up the eight-team points table as they aim to justify their recent superiority in some of India’s elite first-class competitions.
