Experienced wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das sustained his rough patch in Tests, as ace spinner Keshav Maharaj sent him packing cheaply in the ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Litton, who managed only a run in the first innings, added only seven to his Test runs tally, with Maharaj getting his prized scalp.

The incident occurred during the 35th over of Bangladesh's second innings when Litton was trying to form a consolidating stand with Mehidy Hasan Miraz following Mushfiqur Rahim's departure. However, South African skipper Aiden Markram's decision to bring Keshav Maharaj into the attack paid rich dividends for the visitors, with the left-arm spinner getting rid of the right-handed batter.

Maharaj had a poor start to his 13th over, as Litton Das dispatched his second delivery into the fence for four runs. However, the bowler made a remarkable comeback, putting Litton under the pump with two successive dot balls. He followed it up with a beauty, outfoxing the keeper-batter with a magnificent delivery.

From over the wicket, Maharaj bowled a full-length delivery, drawing Litton into a forward defensive shot. However, as the batter tried to defend it, the ball spun sharply, taking an outside edge of his bat. South Africa's wicketkeeper Kyle Verrynne, who struck a glorious century in the first innings, made no mistake, holding on to a sharp catch behind the stumps.

Although the umpire decided in Litton's favour, South Africa managed to overturn the on-field call through a DRS review.

Bangladesh On The Verge Of A Humiliating Defeat In Mirpur Test

After posting a respectable 308-run total in the first innings, South Africa reduced Bangladesh to 112 for six inside 35 overs. At the time of writing, Bangladesh were tottering at 127 for six, still trailing by 75 runs.
