Even before the start of the India Vs New Zealand Tests, pundits gave no chance to the Kiwi side who were coming into this series on the back of an embarrassing loss Vs Sri Lanka. However, the tables turned and the New Zealand side clinched memorable wins in Bengaluru and Pune Tests.

The entire team failed to deliver as the visitors inflicted a series defeat to India after almost 12-years. The batters couldn't put up a challenging total and the bowlers struggled to put breaks on the scoring rate as well. Talking about the bowlers, the leader of the attack, Jasprit Bumrah had a rare off game.

This was only the third instance after Chennai Test (2021), and WTC finals (2021) that Bumrah has gone wicketless in a Test match. He lacked the cutting edge as the Kiwi batters tackled him with perfection. In an interesting insight, former India keeper, Dinesh Karthik asserted that Bumrah looks tired and with an important series coming up against Australia, the team management should give him ample rest.

“Jasprit Bumrah definitely needs a rest without a doubt. That is happening, and you will see Mohammed Siraj come in. I can’t think of any other change unless someone has a niggle. I don’t see any reason why the batters who played this game or the bowlers should not get an opportunity,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

India falter against Santner's spin masterclass

The Indian batters failed to play according to the situation on a spin-friendly deck and gave their wickets to Mitch Santner, who picked up a fifer in both the innings and scalped 13 wickets in the match.

Almost all the key batters couldn't read Santner as the Kiwi spinner ran riot and destroyed the famed Indian batting lineup. Santner was street smart in his approach and used the pitch conditions to his advantage as the New Zealand side won a Test series in India for the first time.
