Former India captain and legendary spinner, Anil Kumble has decoded how spin wizard, Mitchell Santner trapped Rohit Sharma in his spin web. Rohit looked in decent nick in the second innings, but Santner had his plans ready to dismiss the India skipper on Day 3 of the second Test.

Rohit, trying to take on the Kiwi bowler, danced down the track, but doesn't commit fully as he gets an inside-edge and the short leg fielder took a simple catch. Rohit has been a disappointment in the ongoing Test series, and was also dismissed for a low score in the first innings.

In the second innings, Rohit came up with a positive frame of mind, but Santner outfoxed him with his own game-plan, which was decoded by Kumble. The legendary bowler stated that Rohit tried different shots in the second innings, with even reverse sweep in action, and Santner saw this as he prepared his plan against Rohit.

“He played the reverse sweep and he also stepped out. He used all the options, unfortunately for him it was seen by Santner early and then he bowled it slightly shorter and then it bounced to Rohit Sharma,” said Kumble on Sports18.

“I thought the intent was right but of course, it was well bowled by Santner. We should also give credit to Santner because he saw him coming The one advantage that Santner has is he releases the ball really late and that probably helped him in seeing Rohit come at him and drop length a little bit,” he added.

India stare at heavy series defeat

Courtesy, Mitchell Santner, India are starring at an embarrassing series defeat. The wily spinner has already taken 13 wickets in the Test match, including fifers in both the innings. He took wickets of important players as the Indian batters failed to read him.

Chasing 359, the Indian batters lost Rohit early. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill stitched an aggressive partnership. But with the wicket of Gill and Jaiswal, things completely changed as the home side surrendered in front of the guile of Santner.
