On October 26, New Zealand made history by beating India by 113 runs in the second Test match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. With this win, New Zealand clinched the series 2-0, breaking a 12-year unbeaten streak India held on home soil. This victory also marked the first time in 4,331 days that a visiting team defeated India in a home Test series—a rare achievement.
This loss is significant for India, as it’s the first time they’ve lost a Test series at home since 2012, when England, under Alastair Cook, defeated the MS Dhoni-led Indian team 2-1 in a four-match series. Since that defeat, India went on to win 18 consecutive home series, setting a world record for the longest home series winning streak. However, New Zealand ended this record by taking the current series 2-0.
For New Zealand, this win is even more special because it’s their first Test series victory in India in 69 years. The Kiwis first played a Test match in India back in 1955, but it took until 2024 for them to secure a series victory on Indian soil.

This victory built on their earlier success in the series opener in Bengaluru, where they won by eight wickets.
