Mumbai Indians franchise roped in Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur for the IPL 2026 season. Shane Watson will join the KKR franchise as their assistant coach. In other news, the PCB has announced a revised schedule for Pakistan’s home ODI and T20I tri-series.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news stories that emerged on Thursday, November 13.

PCB revises schedule for SL ODIs, Tri-series over security threat

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a revised schedule of Pakistan’s ongoing home ODI series against Sri Lanka and for the upcoming T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in light of the security threat in the country. 

Under the new schedule, the second and third ODIs of the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series will be played on November 14 and November 16 in Rawalpindi. The tri-series, meanwhile, will now be entirely hosted by Rawalpindi, with final to be played on November 29.

This is the second instance the upcoming tri-series has been hit by scheduling changes in any capacity, after Afghanistan pulled out of the tour last month, citing their geo-political tensions with Pakistan.

IPL 2026 auction confirmed in Abu Dhabi: Report

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction will reportedly be taking place in Abu Dhabi next month, as per Sportstar. The report also indicated that the bidding event will be organized on December 16 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). 

Unlike last year, the IPL 2026 event will be a mini-auction. It is worth noting that the IPL auction of the last two editions of the tournament was also held outside India, in Dubai in 2023 and in Saudi Arabia in 2024.

Sherfane Rutherford traded to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans

West Indies middle-order batter Sherfane Rutherford has been traded to the Mumbai Indians franchise by Gujarat Titans for his existing fees of INR 2.6 crore. Rutherford made his Titans debut earlier this year during the IPL 2025 season. 

In 13 matches of the tournament, the cricketer rained down 291 runs in 11 innings at an astonishing batting strike rate of 157.29. Overall, Sherfane Rutherford holds an experience of 221 T20 matches, including 44 internationals for the West Indies team.

Mumbai Indians rope in Shardul Thakur from LSG for IPL 2026

The Mumbai Indians franchise also roped in star all-rounder Shardul Thakur for the IPL 2026 season following a trade from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Earlier this year, the LSG picked up the cricketer for a sum of INR 2 crore as an injury replacement. 

He ended up playing 10 games in the tournament, picking up 13 wickets at an average of 28.84. The 105-match IPL veteran has previously represented teams like CSK, KKR and Punjab Kings.

Shane Watson joins KKR as assistant coach for IPL 2026

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise to become their assistant coach in next year’s IPL 2026 season. The legendary former cricketer will be working alongside head coach Abhishek Nayar, who recently replaced Chandrakant Pandit for the top role.

As reported by ESPNCricinfo, legendary New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee will also be joining the KKR franchise in some capacity. Former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo will continue to serve as mentor for the three-time IPL winners.
