In a significant development, Shardul Thakur has shifted his base from Lucknow Super Giants, joining Mumbai Indians through a pre-auction IPL trade before the 2026 mini auction. The Indian Premier League, on Thursday, confirmed the development through an official press release.

Shardul Thakur joins Mumbai Indians via IPL trade

Shardul Thakur was a part of Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2025 season. He had joined the Lucknow-based franchise as an injury replacement at a price of INR 2 crores, the same amount that Mumbai Indians have paid to the Super Giants to execute the all-cash deal.

As reported earlier, Thakur has been traded to Mumbai Indians and is set to represent the five-time champions in the next IPL edition. Although his economy rate was on the higher side, Thakur emerged as a wicket-taker for LSG, scalping 13 wickets at a superb strike rate of 15.69. Besides chipping in with crucial breakthroughs, the bowling allrounder can also contribute handy runs to MI's tally by playing quick-fire cameos down the order.

Shardul Thakur IPL record

Overall, Shardul Thakur has played 105 matches in the Indian Premier League. He has primarily featured as a bowler in the tournament, scalping 107 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls at a strike rate of 19.35.

Thakur is vastly experienced, having represented six different teams- Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings and Rising Pune SuperGiants. Thus, Mumbai Indians is the seventh franchise that the veteran cricketer is going to play for in the IPL.

Interestingly, Shardul has played all his cricket for Mumbai in the domestic circuit and could make the most of the conditions at the Wankhede Stadium while assisting Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya in the fast bowling department.
