In a significant development, the Mumbai Indians have secured the services of WI's star Sherfane Rutherford, acquiring him from the Gujarat Titans. This signing comes just after the franchise confirmed the addition of Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur.

Sherfane Rutherford joins Mumbai Indians

It is worth noting that Rutherford had been bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs. 2.6 crore and moves to Mumbai Indians for the same fee for the upcoming season. The 27-year-old played 13 matches for GT in IPL 2025, scoring 291 runs at an impressive strike rate of 157.29.

It is important to note that, Rutherford is no stranger to the IPL circuit, having represented Delhi Capitals in 2019, RCB in 2022, and earlier been part of Mumbai Indians in 2020 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. However, during his previous stints with MI and KKR, he did not feature in the playing XI.

This will be Rutherford’s homecoming to MI as he was part of the five-time champions in 2020 but did not get a game during his the stint.

It can be said that with Rutherford’s addition, MI’s batting depth receives a notable boost. The left-hander’s aggressive style will complement Mumbai's existing lineup and offer flexibility in the middle order.
