India have received a major boost as star seamer Mohammed Shami has returned to competitive cricket nearly after a year as he is busy featuring for Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh.

In the ongoing match, Shami can be seen bowling at full throttle and looks like has attained full fitness. Earlier, a video went viral of him teasing the Madhya Pradesh batters with his swinging deliveries and sharp bouncers.

At the time of writing this article, Shami has also registered his name among the wicket-takers and taken four scalps to cripple Madhya Pradesh. He has bowled 19 overs and taken four wickets, including the important scalp of MP skipper Shubham Sharma.

It is a positive sign for the Indian team as the players are currently in Australia practising and gearing up for the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy that starts on November 22. But Can Shami still make a place in the BGT squad?

It is worth noting that Shami was in contention to be a part of the BGT squad, but a fresh injury around October ruled out his return. Nonetheless, the BCCI were expecting him to feature for Bengal in the second or third round. Nonetheless, Shami has returned for the fourth round and there is still a possibility that the BCCI might be impressed by Shami's recovery and in case of any injury or unavailability, Shami might travel to Australia for the crucial series.

Shami Posts Emotional Post On His Return To Competitive Cricket

After Shami was confirmed to feature in the playing XI for Bengal, he took to Twitter to express his gratitude. He tweeted:

"Back in Action. 360 days is a long long time!! All set for the Ranji Trophy. Now back on the domestic stage with the same passion and energy. Huge thanks to all my fans for your endless love, support, and motivation,– let’s make this season memorable!"

Shami last featured for India in the final of 2023 World Cup against Australia in Ahmedabad and then suffered a heel injury.
