In a significant development, Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of IPL 2024. Notably, the speedster has sustained an injury to his left ankle and will require surgery  to get back into action.

As per PTI, the veteran seamer will need significant time for recovery, which is why he will miss the upcoming season of the tournament. The report also states that he might be ruled out of the T20 World Cup as well, making his comeback to competitive cricket through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.

Shami played a pivotal role in powering India to the final of the recently held World Cup, where they lost to Australia in Ahmedabad. However, soon after his stellar performance in the event, the veteran seamer missed out on plenty of action due to the aforementioned injury.

Shami’s absence is a massive setback for his IPL team Gujarat Titans, as he has been a prolific performer for them. In 33 matches for the Titans, Shami has 48 wickets at an average of 21.04 and a strike rate of 15.75, his best for any IPL franchise.

Talking about the Titans, they will be led by young Indian batter Shubman Gill, as Hardik Pandya has been traded to Mumbai Indians. If reports are to be believed, they will take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener on March 22.
