On Friday, October 25, India announced the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia. The list included several new faces such as Harshit Rana, Nitsh Reddy, and Abhimanyu Easwaran.
However, several other stars such as Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami missed out because of injuries. While Kuldeep has suffered a groin injury, Shami failed to recover in time for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Still A Place For Shami In The BGT Squad
The BCCI did not provide any update on Shami but left the right-arm seamer out as he dealt a blow on his knee that further pushed his recovery.
In the latest events, there are reports that there is still a chance that Shami can make it to the BGT squad, as a report from Crictracker mentioned that the board would assess Shami's performance during his upcoming Ranji Trophy stint with Bengal and then make a call on his inclusion.
"A call on Mohammed Shami's inclusion will be taken after the pacer proves his fitness in the Ranji Trophy. As reported earlier, Shami is expected to play Bengal's fourth round match against Karnataka in Bengaluru in the first week of November after Diwali," the report claimed.
Shami Breaks Silence On Not Making A Cut In BGT Squad
In the latest events, Shami has broken his silence on his absence from the 18-member squad and apologised to his fans and the BCCI.
“Putting in my efforts and getting better with my bowling fitness day by day. Will continue working hard towards getting ready for the match and to play domestic red ball cricket. Sorry to all cricket fans and BCCI too, but very soon I’m ready to play red ball cricket, love you all,” he wrote.
Shami is likely to join Bengal's squad for their upcoming match against Karnataka starting on November 6.
