India's star seamer, Mohammed Shami, has been dealt a heavy blow as he has not been named in Bengal's squad for the upcoming round of Ranji Trophy 2024/25.

Notably, Bengal will face Karnataka in Bengaluru on November 6 and Madhya Pradesh in Indore on November 13. Shami was touted to make his comeback to competitive cricket for the first time since the 2023 World Cup final. However, his omission from the Bengal squad means that the right-arm quick is yet to fully recover from the ankle injury.

A few months ago, Shami had resumed training and posted videos of him training in the nets. The fans were optimistic that the ex-GT star would be fit in time for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting on November 22.

BCCI Were Keen On Shami's Selection

However, a week ago, the BCCI released the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series, and Shami was not named in it. Reportedly, he had a swollen knee while practising in the nets, which has further pushed his return to the Indian team.

Meanwhile, a report flouted on the internet remarked that the BCCI officials are still monitoring Shami's fitness and have kept a BGT squad spot open for him and will make a decision on his inclusion after assessing his performance in the Ranji Trophy.

However, since Shami is not named in the Bengal squad, it is safe to assume that the doors are now shut for his inclusion in the BGT squad.
