Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is set to receive £5,000 from Welsh Fire despite withdrawing from the upcoming Men’s The Hundred 2024 season. The 24-year-old cricketer recently helmed Pakistan’s pace attack at the 2024 T20 World Cup in UAE, where his team suffered a humiliating first-round exit after defeats at the hands of USA and India.

As per reports, Afridi pulled out of The Hundred 2024 to play Global T20 Canada 2024 matches instead. The speedster was initially re-signed by Welsh Fire in the £100,000 category after he played six games for the franchise back in 2023.

Shaheen Afridi to receive 5% salary from Welsh Fire

The Hundred 2024 season in England is set to coincide with the impending Global T20 Canada matches between July and August. Shaheen Afridi, who was slated to turn up for Welsh Fire in The Hundred, withdrew himself from the tournament to play Global T20 Canada matches in Brampton.

Despite his complete withdrawal, Shaheen will receive a sum of £5,000 from Welsh Fire, owing to a clause in the competition’s contract. The aforementioned sum constitutes five percent of his original contract value of £100,000 with the franchise. Shaheen Afridi is entitled to hold on to the sum of £5,000 as part of his image rights.

The left-arm speedster recently played the 2024 T20 World Cup for the Pakistan team in USA. Despite picking up five wickets in the tournament, the ‘Men in Green’ crashed to a first-round exit after defeats to USA and India.

Meanwhile, in the absence of Shaheen Afridi, Welsh Fire will be commencing their 2024 The Hundred campaign with a match against Manchester Originals at Old Trafford on July 25.
