Following Pakistan's early elimination from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, captain Babar Azam has returned to his hometown, Lahore.

Under Babar's leadership, Pakistan failed to advance to the Super 8 stage of the tournament, drawing widespread criticism of his captaincy. In the T20 World Cup, they suffered a shocking Super Over defeat to hosts and first-time participants, the United States.

After which, they lost to arch-rivals India, despite chasing a modest total. Although Pakistan won their remaining group matches against Canada and Ireland, these victories were insufficient to secure a spot in the Super 8.

The early exit, particularly the losses to the US and India, sparked outrage on social media directed at the Pakistani cricketers. While the team was eliminated several days ago, it seems Babar has only now found the courage to return home and face the public.

Babar, along with teammates Mohammad Amir, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, and Shadab Khan, reportedly spent some time in London.

The Pakistan skipper arrived at Lahore airport on Tuesday morning to a muted reception, with only a few fans showing support, while many appeared indifferent to his arrival.

Speculation surrounds Babar’s future as captain. He assumed the role just before the tournament after being reinstated following Shaheen Afridi's removal. However, after another disappointing campaign, it seems likely he will be replaced, as he was last year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to hold a press conference in the coming days to explain the team's poor performance and possibly announce changes in captaincy and the white-ball squads.

Pakistan’s next assignment is a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home in August. It remains to be seen whether Babar will regain PCB's support or if they will opt for new leadership.
