Shaheen Afridi To Reclaim Captaincy From Babar Azam? Ex-Pakistan Skipper Gives His Verdict

If you look at the recent history of Pakistan cricket, you will find themselves in turmoil more often than not. Such a scenario is currently going on, with Babar Azam's return to white-ball captaincy not helping them at all just before the T20 World Cup 2024.

In fact, the Men in Green were eliminated from the group league stage of the ongoing edition, with the Super Over loss against the USA being the most shambolic result of all.

So, what will be the future now for Pakistan? Will Babar keep on doing the captaincy, or will they bring back Shaheen Afridi, who had a very little stint in national colours as a leader before getting sacked?

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram did not hold back from giving his verdict while talking on an Indian sports platform. The legendary left-arm fast bowler wants Shaheen to get his job back from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and gives detailed explanations behind his desire.

"He’s a wicket-taking bowler. He goes for wickets. He attacks with the new ball in the T20 format. Everyone knows that he’ll pitch it up, but he still gets them out, and that’s what I love about him," Wasim Akram said, as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk.

Further on, Akram added Shaheen should be the right candidate to lead Pakistan from here on if they really put up some ambition for the next T20 World Cup, which is only two years away.

"At least give Shaheen a year to lead, and then he could be changed, but I don't know. He’s an aggressive cricketer, only 23 or 24 years old, maybe younger. Got a bright future ahead. He’ll get the captaincy again but should focus on his game until he doesn’t get it," he added.

However, don't be surprised if Pakistan move on from both Babar and Shaheen, and trust someone else for the job.
