Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam will not play in the third and final T20I match against Pakistan, which is set to be held on June 1 in Lahore. Islam injured his right thigh muscle during the 2nd T20I, which led to his ouster.
Amid cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, Bangladesh visited Pakistan for a 3-game T20I series. The host team sealed the series with a 2-0 unassailable lead.
Moreover, with the chips already down, the visiting team has now suffered a major injury setback as the key player is set to skip the last game.
Shoriful Islam Diagnosed With Thigh Muscle Strain
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed through a press release that fast bowler Shoriful Islam has been ruled out of the third and final T20I against Pakistan scheduled for June 1 in Lahore.
The pacer got injured while bowling during the second T20I match on Friday. According to National Team Physio Delowar Hossain Siva, the injury happened in his right thigh muscle.
The MRI scans revealed that Islam has a Grade 1 strain in the rectus femoris muscle on his right side. Because of this injury, he will not be able to play cricket for 2 to 3 weeks. During this time, he will go through rest and recovery under the care of the BCB medical team.
This is a big blow for Bangladesh, who have already lost the T20I series. Pakistan won the first two matches easily, by 37 runs and 57 runs, both played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Bangladesh Drop To New Low In T20I Rankings
In the latest revised rankings, Bangladesh have slipped to 10th place in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings after back-to-back defeats against Pakistan in their ongoing T20I series. They were ranked 9th before the series but dropped below Afghanistan following a 57-run loss in the second T20I on May 30, 2025, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
With 220 rating points, Bangladesh now trails behind Afghanistan (223) and Pakistan (229). The tour has been tough, and the Tigers have already lost the 3-game series.
