After a brief break, Test cricket is coming up as Team India is gearing up for a five-match Test series against England. The upcoming series has turned into a transition phase for the Indian side as some of the stars have hung up their boots from the longest formats.

In the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, Shubman Gill’s Team India will have a new beginning. But what if Cheteshwar Pujara gets a recall? The Indian batter answered it with a straight drive.

Has Pujara Received A Phone Call From Gambhir?

Ending a glorious era in Test cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement last year, and Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have joined this list earlier this month. With those major missing pieces, Team India is eyeing a massive transformation under Shubman Gill’s leadership.

Among the youngsters, the experience of veterans like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane could be invaluable. When asked if Gambhir had given him a call, Pujara didn’t just answer, he smashed it out of the park. As quoted by the Times Of India, he said, “Not Yet.”

Is He Ready for a Comeback?

In the Indian Test team, Cheteshwar Pujara’s contribution can’t be described in words. Playing 103 Tests, the 37-year-old veteran has scored 7195 runs along with 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. But after losing the WTC final in 2023 against Australia, He has not seen in Team India’s jersey. When asked about a potential comeback, he stepped up and declared it would be an absolute honor to represent his country again.

“I am ready. I don’t know if they will take me or not. But if I get a chance, yes, it will be an honour to represent to country again. As a cricketer, you always feel that as long as you are fit, as long as you are contributing, and if I have a good performance in domestic cricket, and I am preparing well, if I get a chance, yes, I will be more than happy to be part of the team,” Pujara added.

On June 20, Team India will take on England at Headingley. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, Team India will enter into a new era.
