Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in a high-scoring IPL 2025 Eliminator on Friday in Mullanpur. GT got eliminated after the loss, and skipper Shubman Gill wasn’t happy, as he pinned the blame on dropped catches.

Batting first, MI put up a massive total of 228/5 in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma led from the front with 81 off 50 balls, supported by Jonny Bairstow’s quick-fire 47 off 22 balls.

Titans dropped Rohit twice and also missed a catch of Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20), which cost them dearly. MI took full advantage of these chances to post their highest powerplay score of the season, 79 runs in six overs.

Shubman Gill Reacts To GT’s Loss Vs MI

In reply, Gujarat Titans fought hard. Sai Sudharsan played a beautiful knock of 80 off 49 balls, while Washington Sundar scored a quick 48.

However, Jasprit Bumrah's deadly yorker got rid of Sundar, and Sudharsan was bowled by Richard Gleeson soon after. That changed the game in MI’s favour. Even with dew making bowling tough, MI held their nerves.

After the match, GT captain Shubman Gill did not hold back. He blamed dropped chances in the field for their blow-up in the first inning.

"Yes definitely not easy. We dropped three sitters in the powerplay. It wasn't easy for the bowlers to control. It doesn't help when you drop three catches," Gill said in post-match interview (via Crex).

This was the third time in a row that the Titans conceded over 225 runs, which clearly affected their campaign. RCB now awaits the IPL final. The winner of MI vs PBKS will join them for the title clash on June 3 at Ahmedabad.

Gill Reviews GT’s IPL 2025 Season

Despite the loss, Shubman Gill deemed the IPL 2025 tournament a terrific season for Gujarat Titans. He credited Sai Sudharsan for having a breakout season, scoring 759 runs in 15 games.

"Lot of positives to takeaway for us. Last 2-3 games didn't go our way but still credit to all the players especially Sai. I think he was terrific in this season," he added.

Now, Gill will report for national duty as he will be captaining India’s Test side in their upcoming five-Test tour to England.
