Security at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia will be tightened after a serious security lapse during an Australian Football game. Two men were caught carrying handguns and bullets inside the stadium which had a crowd of over 82,000 people.

MCG is one of the world's most iconic and historic stadiums. It sits in Melbourne, Australia, and is the largest stadium in the Southern Hemisphere and the 11th largest in the world, with a seating capacity of approximately 100,000 fans.

However, recently, a major security lapse was noted, after which the authorities decided to tighten the security.

Men Spotted With Guns Inside MCG Stadium

During a recent AFL game between Collingwood and Carlton, police arrested two men for carrying guns and ammunition inside the MCG stadium in Melbourne which had 82,000 spectators inside on April 3.

Police said both men had handguns, and one of the weapons was already loaded. They were arrested after refusing to leave the stadium when security staff asked them to.

During a police search, the guns and bullets were found. The men have now been charged with several serious crimes, including carrying unregistered firearms and ammunition without a licence.

According to the police, the incident is not linked to terrorism, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, it has raised major concerns about how the men managed to get the weapons past stadium security.

Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox, who manages the MCG, admitted there was a failure in the security process. He indicated that the security system first identified the men for additional screening, but because of human mistake, no one followed up on the warning. As a result, the men were allowed to enter the stadium.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also reacted to the shocking news and thanked Victoria Police for keeping people safe.
