There’s exciting news for Chennai Super Kings fans (CSK); MS Dhoni might be seen leading the team once again! According to Indian reports, Dhoni is likely to captain CSK in their upcoming IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 5 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

This possible change in captaincy is due to an injury to current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. In the last match against Rajasthan Royals, Gaikwad got hit on his right forearm by a delivery from Tushar Deshpande.

The ball unexpectedly bounced more than usual and struck him hard. Since then, Ruturaj hasn’t trained, and the team management is waiting to see how he feels during the net session before making a final decision. Batting coach Mike Hussey confirmed that a decision would be made based on Ruturaj’s recovery.

When Was The Last Time MS Dhoni Led CSK?

So, when did Dhoni last lead CSK? It was during the IPL 2023 final, where he led the team to their fifth title. After that victorious campaign, Dhoni stepped down from the role, and Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed as the new captain for the 2024 season. But with Ruturaj’s availability in doubt, CSK might once again turn to their legendary captain.

MS Dhoni, also known as "Thala" by fans, is the most successful captain in CSK history. Under his leadership, the team reached 10 IPL finals and won 5 trophies. CSK qualified for the playoffs 12 times out of the 14 seasons Dhoni led them, making the team one of the most consistent in the league.

In total, Dhoni has captained 226 matches in the IPL, including 14 for the Rising Pune Supergiant. For CSK specifically, he led 212 games, with 128 wins and 82 losses. If we include matches from the now-defunct Champions League T20, where CSK won the title twice under Dhoni, his total number of matches as CSK captain rises to 235.
