In a significant development, Australia will host England for a day/night Test match in March 2027 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the format. The clash will be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Test cricket is the longest and most traditional format of the sport, often regarded as the ultimate test of skill, patience, and endurance. This format, which began with the first-ever Test match between Australia and England in 1877, remains the pinnacle of the game.

As the format approaches its 150th anniversary, Australia and England have planned a special way to celebrate the milestone.

Australia-England To play D/N Test Match In Melbourne

Australia and England will gear up to play a day/night Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 2027, marking 150 years of Test cricket.

Cricket Australia (CA) announced the highly anticipated match, scheduled to take place from March 11-15, 2027, celebrating the first-ever Test match played between these two fierce rivals at the same venue in 1877.

This milestone encounter will also mark the first men’s day/night Test at the MCG, following the success of the women’s Ashes day/night Test earlier in 2025.

While this historic match is a massive occasion for cricket, it could impact the IPL2027. Since the IPL is expected to run from March 14 to May 30, 2027, the Australian and English players involved in the Test match might join their IPL franchises late.

Australia To Host Ashes 2025

Cricket Australia had announced the schedule for the Ashes 2025-26, with Perth set to host the opening Test for the first time in 43 years. The historical series will kick off on November 21, 2025, as a dramatic change as The Gabba, which historically conducts the opener, will instead host the first-ever Ashes day/night Test as the second game of the series.

The five-match series will then move to Adelaide, followed by the iconic Boxing Day Test at the MCG and the New Year's Test at the SCG.

Australia, who have dominated the Ashes since 2015, will look to extend their supremacy, while England will aim for their first series win Down Under since 2010.
