In a bizarre turn of events, a floodlight failure at Providence Stadium in Guyana led to 123-minute delay in CPL 2024 eliminator match. Trinbago Knight Riders batted first against Barbados Royals in the eliminator contest of the CPL 2024 season held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Despite early wickets, Nicholas Pooran’s 91 off 60 runs knock steered the Knight Riders total to 168 runs at the loss of 3 wickets.

However, following Andre Russell’s six off the 20th over’s first ball, the floodlight tower went off, leading to a delay. The halt lasted longer than expected as technicians struggled to fix the issue.

Fans unimpressed with handling of TKR vs BR eliminator contest

Interestingly, match referees breached the cut off time to announce a five-over per side reduced contest as per DLS method following a 123-minute long delay. Barbados Royals were asked to chase 60 runs in five overs which proved to be a cake walk for David Miller. The South African scored 50 off 17 balls, including 5 sixes.

However, the confusion over the cut-off times added to the drama, with some TKR fans accusing the delay of being intentional, especially as TKR would have advanced had the match been abandoned due to the higher position in the points table.

The chaotic eliminator led to immense frustration amongst the fans as the spectators were unimpressed with the lack of readiness. However, despite the frustration from the TKR camp and their fans, Barbados Royals secured a spot in Qualifier 2, while TKR’s hopes were dashed.
