Sarfaraz Khan always make sure to make an impression on the field, and his recent innings in the Irani Cup 2024 was no different. Playing for Mumbai against the Rest of India at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, he showed his talent and determination. After Mukesh Kumar took some early wickets, Sarfaraz stepped up to help stabilise the innings.

By the end of the Day 1, Sarfaraz stayed unbeaten at 54. He partnered well with Skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 86 runs. Together, they led the team to a solid total of 237 for 4 at stumps.

Day 2 brought some drama. Rahane was close to scoring a century but got out for 97 runs. There was a tricky caught behind appeal off Yash Dayal’s bowling. Umpire Akshay Totre decided not out, but the decision was reviewed by Gaikwad, and it couldn't be clearly overturned. It turned out that the ball had touched Rahane's glove, resulting in him being out just three runs short of a deserved hundred. Even with Rahane's exit, Sarfaraz kept his cool and continued to build his innings.

In the 92nd over, Sarfaraz showed what he can do with his bat. Facing Yash Dayal, he hit a well-placed shot to deep cover for a couple of runs, bringing up his century off just 149 balls.

This impressive knock highlighted his skill and maturity, sending a strong message to the Indian team management as they gear up for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand and Australia.
