The Trinbago Knight Riders faced the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 30th and last league stage game of the CPL 2024. The match was being held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Kieron Pollard, the skipper of the Knight Riders, won the toss and opted to bat first ahead of the game. After losing Shaqkere Parris early in the innings, the Knight Riders made a roaring comeback with the partnership of Jason Roy and Nicholas Pooran. The duo stitched a partnership of 152 runs and set the stage for a formidable total.
Nicholas Pooran scored a brilliant Hundred against Warriors
Even after the dismissal of Jason Roy, Nicholas Pooran continued his destruction and amassed a blazing hundred. Pooran scored 101 runs off 59 deliveries and played a crucial role in taking the team past the 200 mark. Keacy Carty contributed with a fiery cameo of 27 runs from 13 deliveries and ensured that the Knights posted a massive total of 211/5 at the end of their 20 overs.
Knight Riders won the match convincingly
In reply, the Warriors kept losing wickets regularly and fell apart. They kept falling behind the required rate, and the Knights marched towards a comfortable win. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the highest scorer for the Warriors, scoring 36 off 22 deliveries. The Knights managed to bundle the Warriors for 137 runs in the 19th over and win the game by 74 runs.
Kieron Pollard shunned up his spin bowling during the game
During the second innings, the fans were treated to an unusual sight. Trinbago skipper Kieron Pollard is known for his power-hitting, finishing abilities and effective medium-paced bowling. However, during this game, Pollard was seen bowling off-spin.
In the 18th over of the second innings, Kieron Pollard took the ball and started bowling slow off-spinners with a short run-up. Notably, Kieron Pollard is a part of the Mumbai Indians coaching management in the IPL. The team has struggled to find quality spinners in the last few seasons. Pollard will delight the fans if he shuns up the spinners in him and returns to play for MI in IPL 2025.
