On Tuesday, June 10, India's star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad penned a deal with Yorkshire and will feature for the England County Club for the remainder of the season. The CSK captain will also play the One-Day Cup and join the team in July to square off against Surrey.
With the feat, Gaikwad has also become the first player from the Maharashtra team to play in County Cricket. Overall, Gaikwad has become the fourth Indian to represent Yorkshire. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on the list of all Indian players to have given their services to Yorkshire.
List Of Indians To Play For Yorkshire
Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar was the first Indian player to join Yorkshire. In 1992, 19-year-old Sachin joined the club in 1992 at the age of 19. Not only the first Indian, but the Master Blaster was Yorkshire's first-ever overseas player.
Tendulkar scored 1070 runs from 16 first-class games, but the county team ended the season in 16th place.
Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj followed that in 2003, though his red-ball stints weren't fruitful. Pujara is the latest to play for Yorkshire and has done it for multiple seasons. Singh followed Sachin Tendulkar's legacy in 2003 but failed to emulate the success of Master Blaster.
Despite scoring a fifty in his first match, the 2011 World Cup winner struggled to get among the runs, and his season was marred with a string of low scores.
Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara is the last to play for Yorkshire when he penned a deal in 2018. The right-handed batter has represented the club for four years and averaged 53.98 after 264 runs in his first season.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Speaks On His Signing
“I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season," Gaikwad said in a statement as quoted by News18.
Gaikwad is currently in England for the two-match unofficial Tests for India A but failed to get any chance.
