RCB fans are going through mixed emotions in the last few days as the Rajat Patidar-led side ended their 17-year-long wait and lifted the title for the first time after beating Punjab Kings for six runs.

However, the celebrations soon turned tragic as Bengaluru witnessed a deadly stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the loss of 11 lives. The incident shook the cricketing fraternity and the matter is also up in the court with the investigation in full swing to find the culprits.

In the latest events, there is more drama within RCB, as a report from the Economic Times, mentioned that there could be a change of hands in the ownership. Reportedly, RCB are up for sale as its owners- United Spirits, which is a subsidiary of Diageo, are looking for options to sell the club for around $2 Billion Dollars.

Who Are Diageo The 'RCB Owners'?

Notably, RCB were initially owned by Vijay Mallya, but after the Indian tycoon sold off his spirits business to Diageo, their Indian wing 'United Spirits' took over the ownership of IPL 2025 winners.

Talking about Diageo, it is a British company established in 1997. The brand deals in alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, which is why it bought United Spirits, which is the second-largest spirits company in the world.

Why Is RCB Up For Sale?

There can be multiple reasons for the possible sale. RCB enjoy great popularity and are one of the most successful brands in the IPL. Diageo could look to capitalise on the rising value of the franchise and make a profit by selling certain shares if not the majority of them.

On the other hand, since the last few seasons, the BCCI has imposed several restrictions on the advertisement of tobacco products and alcoholic content. Thus, United Spirits are finding it hard to advertise their product, hampering their growth.

The fans are also concerned about possible change of name as new owners might look to bring changes to the franchise.
