In a significant development, young Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has signed a lucrative deal with Yorkshire for the ongoing County Championship season. As revealed by the club itself, Gaikwad is available to play Yorkshire's upcoming County Championship game against Surrey, and, he will stay with the club for the remainder of the season.
Yorkshire Delighted To Have Gaikwad For County Season
The renowned cricket club, through a statement, disclosed that Ruturaj Gaikwad's signing would strengthen the side amid the challenging County Championship season. The Indian batter brings plenty of experience and hence he can be a valuable asset for the club in their remaining matches.
“Ruturaj has a proven record in all formats and is a multi-faceted cricketer that will strengthen us greatly in the second half of the season. Everyone at Yorkshire CCC is excited by Ruturaj’s signing and we look forward to welcoming him in July," Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Yorkshire Cricket stated.
On the other hand, Gaikwad, in his reaction, revealed that he always wanted to be a part of the English County Championship and he would cherish playing for the iconic cricket club in the upcoming fixtures.
“I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire," Gaikwad said.
"I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware," he added.
Gaikwad has featured in 38 First-Class matches, scoring 2632 runs, including seven centuries and 14 fifties, at an average of 41.77. On the other hand, he has been much more successful in white-ball cricket, amassing 4324 List-A runs in 83 innings at a superb average of 56.15. He becomes only the fourth Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Cheteshwar Pujara to sign a County Championship deal with Yorkshire.
