MS Dhoni has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame and is now among the 11 Indians to be included in the illustrious list. The former Indian captain is appreciated all over the world for his astute leadership skills and many believe that he could be a great coach in the future.
MS Dhoni's IPL Participation, A Hurdle In His Coaching Future
However, despite all the praises and Dhoni's experience of world cricket, he is currently not eligible to coach an Indian cricket team or any international unit. The reason for his non-eligibility is that the 42-year-old is still playing Indian Premier League for CSK. Thus, he is an active cricketer despite being retired from international cricket in 2020.
So, if MS Dhoni wants to coach the Indian cricket team or any international cricket team he would have to retire from IPL. The legendary cricketer though can take the role of a mentor, like he did for India in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Therefore, if MS Dhoni does not play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, he would be eligible to take over the role of a coach for an international team. The CSK legend though has not given any such indications and could be seen in action again in the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League.
The reason that the people are hoping to see Dhoni in the coaching role is because of his ability to help the team deliver as a unit in big tournaments. Under his leadership, India won all three white-ball ICC trophies in the span of six years, and his captaincy has been one of the main reasons for CSK's success in the Indian Premier League.
