With rumours circulating about Rohit Sharma potentially leaving the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has sparked an intriguing debate. Kaif, who once played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has expressed his desire for the Bengaluru-based franchise to target Rohit Sharma, should he become available.

In Kaif's eyes, Rohit Sharma could be the ideal team leader. Kaif believes Rohit's tactical acumen and experience make him a valuable asset for any team. His ability to get the best out of players has been one of his key strengths as a captain.

Rohit is one of the successful IPL captains, and as skipper of the Mumbai Indians, he led the team to five IPL titles. However, Rohit was replaced by Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024, and Mumbai endured a tough season, finishing at the bottom of the points table. Pandya’s leadership could not replicate the success that Rohit had brought to the franchise.

In a viral video that has gained a lot of attention on social media, Kaif passionately advocated for RCB to pursue Rohit. He said how Rohit has the ability to transform average players into exceptional performers.

“Players mei 19-20 hota hai, mai guarantee bol raha hoon players mei 19-20 hota hai. Ye banda 18 ko 20 kar deta hai. 18 wale player ko 20 kar deta hai. Gale mei haath daal ke kaam nikalna jaanta hai. Tactical moves jaanta hai, kisko kaha fit karna hai 11 mein, vo role badhiya batata hai. Mera manna hai agar mauka miley RCB ko toh bhai le lo Rohit Sharma ko as a captain,” Kaif said.

Rohit Sharma's Journey With Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma has been an important part of Mumbai Indians for the last 17 years. In his IPL career, the right-handed batter has played 256 matches and amassed 6,628 runs, including 43 fifties and two centuries, with an average strike rate of 131.14.
